Starting intermodal services

Scroll down

At the beginning of 2014 we have started a pilot offering an intermodal service. The containers arrive in the Netherlands via Deep- and Short Sea shipping . After their arrival in Rotterdam the cross docking takes place in Poznan in stead of in Mill. Six months after the start of this service we are proud to announce that the deliveries have been carried out successfully in Eastern Europe, especially in Poznan, Poland, and that this service will be launched on the market.

Intermodal over road transport

Intermodal transport is increasingly being chosen over road transport. The advantages of intermodal transport, such as avoiding the rising diesel costs, are a godsend for many companies that want to save on transport costs. However, the vulnerable part in intermodal transport is that there are several parties busy performing actions before the load has reached its final destination. On the other side there is the road transport, where one is sure that the same truck that is getting the load will arrive at the place of destination, without further handling.

ERS Railways

Therefore, Boekestijn Transport Service provides a new solution, together with our partner ERS Railways providing rail transport from Rotterdam to Poznan.. The container arrives via Deep/Short Sea shipping in Rotterdam or the pre-carriaging is done from the Netherlands to Rotterdam by a transport partner in the Netherlands. Subsequently, ERS Railways takes care of transport by rail. Once arrived in Poland, we take care of the on-carriaging with our own drivers.

Over 2 decades of experience

Boekestijn Transport Service now has 20 years of experience in transport in both Western and Eastern Europe and we already have 200 own trucks on the road. The extensive experience and the latest, broadest deployable equipment ensure you that your cargo will stay in good condition and will arrive on time at your customers in Eastern Europe.

An important side-effect is the emission of CO2. There is proof that a load from the Netherlands to Poland in the intermodal option has caused up to 70% less CO2 emission compared to road transport.

However, the costs of transport will in most cases be decisive. Recent cargo flows have shown that the transport price can be reduced up to 25%.

Speed as a bottleneck

In today's 24-hour market speed comes first. This is often a bottleneck for intermodal transport. Through the various handlings in the entire process, the lead time of intermodal transport is lower than that of road transport. However, because our partner on the rail path, ERS Railways, leaves daily for Poland, this ensures that, for example, in the West of Poland a lead time can be offered of loading on day A, delivery on day C. As a result, there is hardly any loss in the lead time between road and intermodal transport.

No more loss of loading space

In the past loss of loading space was linked to intermodal transportation. This does not apply for us. We use standard 45 ' containers which means that the loading capacity is as large as the loading capacity of a normal trailer.

In short, Boekestijn Transport Service now offers intermodal transport in the direction of Poland (in combination with road transport deep into Russia or even further), with the Dutch reliability, without loss of lead time or loading space, with saving CO2 emissions and remarkable savings on your transport costs.

How do you transport High Value Loads?

All high value loads are transported under strict internal policies. It is standard working practice to have panic buttons, electro locking systems on our trailers, motion sensors, acoustic alarms, predefined routing and in-house 24/7 monitoring.

Can I transport commodities at different temperatures in the one truck?

Multi Temperature means that you can divide your loading space into several temperature compartments with a different temperature range in each part - For example: The first half of the trailer is set up for 2-8 degrees, we put a wall in between, so the other half can be set up for 15-25 degrees

Are all your drivers ADR Trained?

Yes, our drivers follow annual ADR training and our entire fleet is also equipped with the latest up-to-date ADR equipment
